Giraffe trimming

David Skellern (NACFT committee member) is the official trimmer at West Midlands Safari Park, Bewdley, Worcestershire (www.wmsp.co.uk).

Although Giraffe’s feet look like cows feet, they are of course a lot larger and have a rather soft bulbous heel. These giraffes are well handled and used to people and, according to David, “as long as one of the keepers keeps feeding them apples they are not too bad!“

As well as the giraffes, David will attend to any of the other animals requiring a pedicure.

The reversing cow

Charlie Harding had a bit of bother getting this crazy cow into his crush. Three times she backed into the crush before he managed to turn her. She was sold three weeks later and Charlie wondered if any trimmer had come across her.

Never too much bull

“These bulls are BIG but the GDS bull crush handles them with no problems,” says Steve Jones

Scots beef

John Fergus from Aberdeenshire specialises in bulls and they don't come much bigger than this.
